Types of neck lift
The neck is often the part of the body that people feel starts to age first. Over time, the skin and superficial muscles of the neck lose their youthful tone, grow slack and cause drooping. This often means that many women feel their neck gives away their true age. To rejuvenate the neck area, there are several types of procedures used, and each one, or a combination of procedures, can turn back the clock on your appearance.
Platysmaplasty: Platysmaplasty involves tightening the platysma muscle in the neck. A central โcorsetโ plastysmaplasty is the defining operation in this region and aims to recreate a defined neck angle that is natural in appearance. In addition, platysmaplasty is also performed from around the ear as part of a facelift procedure. These procedures are usually used by patients who have a sagging neck due to ageing or excess weight loss.
Direct Neck Lift: A direct neck lift removes loose skin and tightens the underlying muscle layer to create a better neck contour. While this surgery is relatively uncommon, this procedure is sometimes chosen by older patients who want a less invasive treatment which can be done under local anaesthetic and who are happy to accept a central neck scar.
Extended Neck Lifts and Deep Neck Lifts: Extended neck lifts involve a combination of different procedures, as opposed to one specific treatment. It can involve carrying out platysmaplasty and surgery deeper in the neck including fat removal, submandibular gland reduction and muscle tightening. These are often undertaken in conjunction with a facelift. This approach will help patients dealing with extensive neck sagging and who want a dramatic result.

FAQ
Neck Lift FAQs
There is no set โbest ageโ for a neck lift, but most patients start to notice sagging in the neck area between the ages of 40 and 60. Younger patients will have more skin elasticity and therefore a greater chance of needing less surgical intervention to get lasting results.
The results of a definitive neck lift should be long-lasting because of the nature of tissue rearrangements that Mr. Gore uses. The ageing process does continue and additional surface treatments may be needed to treat surface changes such as wrinkles and fine blood vessels. The most important factor in not losing the outcome from your neck surgery relates to your weight and you not gaining excess weight as this will definitely affect the longevity of your result. Younger patients who choose a skilled surgeon can expect transformative results that last for decades.
Everyone has different pain thresholds, but most patients report that a neck lift is not an especially painful procedure. During the recovery period you will feel some tightness and soreness, but this will ease with time. In the weeks immediately after surgery, you may feel an alteration in your swallowing sensation and you may feel that it is tight to open your mouth fully, but both of these feelings settle gradually in the first month after surgery.
