What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure to remove fat cells (adipocytes) from targeted areas of your body. This helps to eliminate unwanted fat deposits that can be difficult to remove with diet and exercise. While liposuction surgery can be carried out on various parts of the body, Sinclair Gore uses the procedure mostly on the torso.
It is important to remember that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, but a type of plastic surgery designed to sculpt your body. It can be used in conjunction with other procedures, including abdominoplasty and breast reduction to remove excess fat from around specific areas and add the finishing touch to your procedure.
There are several types of liposuction procedures available, depending on the method used to break up the fat cells. All methods of liposuction, also known as Suction-Assisted Lipectomy (SAL), use a thin tube, known as a cannula, to remove the fat.
Whilst laser energy Laser-Assisted Liposuction (LAL) and ultrasound Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL) can aid in the break up of fat tissue, Mr Gore principally uses Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL), which uses a power-assisted cannula tube to remove fat more quickly than traditional liposuction methods.

FAQ
Liposuction FAQs
The results of liposuction can be permanent, provided that you maintain your weight in the future. It can take up to six months to get the results from your liposuction procedure, but these can last for years as long as you can maintain a normal weight. If you gain weight, then the fat cells in other areas of your body may expand and change your body shape. Maintaining a healthy weight will help you to keep the results of your liposuction for longer.
It is possible to combine liposuction with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) to ensure the outcome you desire. While liposuction is fat removal, abdominoplasty helps to remove loose skin. As such, this combination is often used by those who have undergone significant weight loss and now want to sculpt their body to create the best possible aesthetic result.
As liposuction is performed under anaesthetic, and often in conjunction with other procedures, you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. Afterwards, Sinclair Gore will discuss your pain levels and provide painkillers if required. Most patients don’t experience severe pain throughout the process, but Sinclair Gore can monitor your progress and provide you with ongoing support.
Every patient is unique, and your suitability for liposuction will depend on your medical history, your current health, how much fat you want removing, your aesthetic goals and your future plans. Sinclair Gore can discuss your aims and help you find cosmetic surgery options that will help you meet them.
