Lip Lift (Perioral Surgery)

Lip Rejuvenation includes a number of approaches to enhance the lips and improve facial harmony. As with all facial rejuvenation surgery there is a balance of lifting, volumising and skin surface treatments. An upper lip lift reduces the vertical height of the upper lip which tends to lengthen with age. The appearance of fuller lips can be achieved with structural fat grafting to enhance lip volume in a youthful and natural way. Resurfacing of the peri-oral region (upper and lower lip areas) can be useful to iron out fine vertical wrinkles that are otherwise not possible to address through surgery. 

When performing an upper lip lift it is important to achieve a harmonious shortening that addresses the whole width of the upper lip without causing an appearance that looks operated on. An upper lip lift involves placement of a fine scar at the junction of the nose and upper lip, ideally hidden in the concavity between the two structures. 

Volumisation of the lips aims to restore a youthful volume to both the upper and lower lips. Specific placement of this volume aims to recreate the fullness of youth across all of the lip structures, without creating the well-known problems of simplistic lip fillers that can look artificial. Resurfacing of the peri-oral region can smooth and tighten the skin. This is particularly useful in reducing the vertical lines that appear in the upper lip as part of normal facial ageing. A combination of these approaches may be indicated in any individual case. Lip rejuvenation is often carried out alongside other facial procedures, including facelifts, brow lifts or eyelid surgery.
