General Aftercare
Please note that this guidance is general advice. Mr Gore and his team will provide you with ongoing medical support throughout your recovery journey.
Following your cosmetic procedure, there will be an initial recovery period, and you will need to limit physical activity during this time. There may be some discomfort, and Mr Gore’s team will provide you with pain medication as required. Where possible, it is best not to be alone in the early stages of recovery, so please ask a family member or dependable caregiver to drive you home and stay with you for the first night after surgery.
Day case surgery patients will be allowed to leave hospital a few hours after the operation is finished. For any patients having more significant procedures, Mr Gore may wish for you to stay overnight in hospital, and go home the next day. Either way, Mr Gore will go through your postoperative care plan with you in person before you leave. He always aims to see cosmetic surgery patients himself within the first two weeks of surgery and at various intervals thereafter
Every plastic surgery procedure will incur minor bruising around the surgical site. A dressing will be placed at the time of surgery and a compression garment may be needed after certain types of breast and body surgery. There will also be a suture line where the incision is stitched up.
For most breast and body operations Mr Gore uses absorbable sutures which do not need to be removed; these suture lines are usually covered with surgical tape and these can get wet in the shower the next day.
Many facial operations include some stitches that need to be cleaned and dressed with ointment regularly; again, getting in the shower early after surgery is to be encouraged. Mr Gore undertakes most of his own post-operative care and this means every step of your journey is overseen by him and not outsourced to others. This gives you the chance to ask questions and seek specific guidance at numerous points in your recovery.
In the first couple of weeks after surgery, you should aim to rest as much as possible, and should not plan to have numerous social or work commitments. Any work or exercise plans will need to be reduced and for those patients with young children, additional childcare plans may need to be put in place. Aiming to return to a normal exercise regime by 6 weeks after surgery would be expected. Long haul flights (over 4 hours in duration) should not be undertaken in the 4 weeks before or after cosmetic surgery under general anaesthetic to minimise the risk of problematic blood clots developing in your veins (venous thromboembolism).
Recovery is a gradual process, and it is important that you take it easy during the initial healing period, and follow any advice provided by Mr Gore. Avoid strenuous exercise and keep the surgical area clean to avoid complications. Stay hydrated, try to eat a healthy diet and make sure you have a comfortable space to rest to ensure optimal recovery and get the best possible final results that align with your aesthetic goals. If you notice severe pain or anything that doesn’t feel right, Mr Gore’s preference is that you contact his team which gives him the opportunity to get in touch and advise accordingly.
Facial Surgery Aftercare
For patients having facial surgery, including eyelid surgery, facelifts, or rhinoplasty, ointment and/ or a dressing will be placed over any facial sutures following the procedure. In some cases, you may need post surgery drains put in place or require Hilotherm facial cooling, which can be managed by a healthcare professional at the hospital. Rhinoplasty surgery typically involves the use of an external dressing and splint which stays in place for between one and two weeks. In addition Mr Gore will advise you on his specific preferences for post-operative care with nasal cleansing and application of medicated creams. Once discharged from hospital, you will be given specific instructions on how to care for your face and how to remain comfortable in the days after surgery.

Breast Surgery Aftercare
If you are having a breast operation, including breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction, you may experience discomfort in your breasts following the procedure. You will need to wear a supportive compression bra as advised by Mr. Gore to keep your breasts supported after surgery. Mr Gore undertakes all his breast surgery in a way that means you can shower from the day after surgery if desired. You will need to restrict your activity for at least a week, but you should certainly do gentle movements and potter around to avoid stiffness. Mr Gore will offer reassurance and guidance during your post operative check-ups.
Body Contouring Aftercare
Surgery to transform your body, including abdominoplasty and liposuction, can range from smaller to more extensive procedures. As such these may be undertaken on a day case or overnight stay basis. More extensive procedures may incur a longer recovery period than other minor procedures. Mr Gore will advise on what postoperative compression garments you will require from the time of your surgery. Mr Gore undertakes all his torso contouring surgery in a way that means you can shower from the day after surgery if desired. You will need to restrict your activity until you feel more able to undertake everyday activities, work and sport. Ideally you should avoid heavy exercise or lifting for at least 6 weeks, or longer if required. Staying hydrated, reducing physical activity, listening to advice from your Mr Gore and attending your follow-up appointments can ensure a smoother recovery.
