What is body contouring?
Body contouring, or body sculpting, is the process of removing excess skin and fat from various parts of your body, including your stomach, arms, breasts, buttocks and legs.
Body contouring surgery is not a replacement for a healthy diet and exercise but can be used alongside a healthy lifestyle to give you the body shape you’ve always wanted.
There are many body contouring procedures available, and they can be used alone or in conjunction for a personalised treatment plan that works for you. Some of the most common body contouring procedures include:
Tummy Tucks: A tummy tuck, otherwise known as an abdominoplasty, is often combined with liposuction, and this combination can be an effective form of body contouring for most people. The procedure works by removing localised fat deposits and getting rid of sagging skin to flatten and sculpt the abdomen and lower torso. Tightening the abdominal muscles may be carried out at the same time.
Thigh Lifts: A thigh lift aims to correct sagging skin of the inner thighs. This may require a scar in your groin crease or may be combined with a scar down the inner thigh towards, or as far as, the knee. As with all body contouring surgery there is a trade off of the required scar versus the contour correction that can be achieved.
Arm Lifts: Another option, often used as part of an all-over body contouring treatment programme, is an arm lift. Brachioplasty surgery is used to get rid of excess skin and fat from the upper arm area, which can sag after significant weight loss, as part of the aging process or due to genetic issues. This arm fat can be hard to remove with exercise alone, so liposuction surgery is used for fat reduction as part of a brachioplasty prior to excess skin removal.
Breast Lifts: When used in combination with a tummy tuck and other body contouring procedures, breast lifts (mastopexy) surgery
can help rejuvenate the breasts and create a much more youthful breast shape meaning bras are less necessary and ungainly. For a significant change to breast shape and size, breast augmentation or breast reduction can be carried out.

FAQ
Body Contouring Surgery FAQs
How Long Does Body Contouring Last?
Body contouring surgery has a recovery time of up to a year to achieve the final results. After this, you could enjoy the results of your body contouring procedure for several years, as fat reduction is a permanent process that destroys fat cells. If you significantly gain or lose weight in the future, you may notice some changes, so it is best to maintain your ideal weight to keep enjoying the benefits of body contouring surgery.
Is Nonsurgical Body Contouring As Effective As Body Contouring Surgery?
Nonsurgical body contouring procedures are not usually as effective as surgical procedures, as they can’t completely remove fat cells. While nonsurgical options are often lauded because they don’t produce scarring, body contouring surgery can often give better results with minimal visible scars, which are usually hidden in the bikini line or under the bust.
Is Body Contouring The Same As Weight Loss Surgery?
Body contouring is different to weight loss surgery, and isn’t designed to change your weight significantly. Instead, it is used after significant weight loss to remove stubborn pockets of fat cells and excess skin.
How Much Does Body Contouring Cost?
The cost of your body contouring surgery depends on the procedures you choose. As an approximate guide, a full abdominoplasty starts from £9200, and a circumferential bodylift combined with liposuction starts from £19,000.
