What Mr Gore’s patients have to say…

What Is The Point In The Areola?

The areola might look like just a piece of brown pigmented skin surrounding the nipple, but its purpose is to act as a target for babies to see and latch onto during breast feeding. Additionally, the areola has embedded Montgomery glands, which secrete oils that lubricate the skin to prevent chafing of the nipples. Additionally, the areola contains highly sensitive nerve endings that trigger milk release when required. As such, the areola is an important part of the breast.

How Painful Is Areola Reduction Surgery?

Areola reduction surgery is not considered particularly painful, and when performed alone the surgery can be carried out under local anaesthetic. When included as part of a breast augmentation or breast uplift, the procedure will be done under general anaesthesia. In most cases, you will feel some soreness following the procedure, but this can be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medication and does not usually last for more than a few days.

Why Do Patients Choose Areola Reduction?

Many patients feel self conscious about the size of their areola, or notice asymmetry in their nipple shape and size, particularly after breast feeding or significant weight gain or loss. Most commonly, areola reduction is used in conjunction with breast augmentation or a breast lift to reshape and resize the breasts to improve the appearance of breasts.

    Is Areola Reduction Worth It?

Areola reduction surgery can help to improve your self confidence and give you the appearance you’ve always wanted. The areola reduction procedure can help to fix issues such as stretching or naturally large nipples to bolster self-esteem and give you natural-looking results.
